Anyone remember the band Devo?  Led by the incredibly talented Mark Mothersbaugh, Devo fused art with their pop melodies to satirize consumerism of the early, mid and late 80's.

The song they were best known for was "Whip It" and the video for the song revealed the band to be uniformly dressed with yellow jump suits and red, collapsible helmets.  It got them band from MTV, which at the time, was a death sentence for pop radio.

The song reflects on Aesop's fable about "the dog and his reflection".  In it, there's a dog with a bone in his mouth walking over a bridge.  The dog see's his reflection in the water, and thinking it another dog with a bone in its mouth, drops his bone to reach for the others. In doing, he drops his bone in the water and loses it.

The song twists the plot to make it a little more melodic. "In ancient Rome, there was a poem, about a dog wit two bones, he licked the one, he licked the other, he turned in circles 'til he dropped dead."
